Advocating for Restorative Justice in the Philippines

PF Philippines is a founding member of the Coalition for Restorative Justice formed in March 2005. This group of NGOs is seeking to integrate restorative programmes and practices throughout the Philippine Criminal Justice System.

At the request of PF Philippines chairman Rey Taniajura, Dan Van Ness of the Centre for Justice and Reconciliation agreed to come to the Philippines for a week-long series of seminars hosted by the Coalition. Dan presented a series of papers to key leaders of the Philippine justice system:

  • Parole and Probation Administration: Restorative Justice and Parole and Probation
  • Commission of Human Rights of the Philippines: Restorative Justice and the Protection of Human Rights
  • Department of Justice: Fundamental Principles of Restorative Justice
  • International School of Theology -- Asia: Biblical Principles of Restorative Justice
  • University of the Philippines College of Law: Fundamental Principles of Restorative Justice
  • Bureau of Jail Management and Penology: Restorative Justice in the Prison Setting
  • Philippine Supreme Court Judicial Academy: Fundamental Principles of Restorative Justice
  • Catholic Bishops Conference Prison Ministry Seminar: Restorative Justice and Prison Ministry
