Facilitating Prisoner Releases in Liberia

Recently, PF Liberia aided the release of 36 prisoners held for more than 180 days without trial in Monrovia Central Prison and Kakata Prison Centre.

According to Francis Kollie, PF Liberia executive director, these prisoners had been held beyond the legal limits for pre-trial detention and most had committed minor crimes. In assisting these prisoners, the national ministry provided financial assistance through the payment of bond fees to the courts. At the same time, PF Liberia included restorative justice processes by facilitating meetings between the prisoners and their victims to discuss the crime and work out various issues related to it and the prisoners’ release.
