PF Singapore Explores Restorative Justice
On May 30, PF Singapore sponsored a half-day training session on restorative justice theory and programmes.
The purpose of the session was to prompt staff and board members as well as volunteers to consider how restorative justice theory might shape PFS’s current outreach to prisoners, ex-prisoners and their families. Ideas included assisting in the reintegration of the offender into the family after release and adoption of a restorative framework in other ministry to families (such as Angel Tree, etc.)
The group also identified several ways in which restorative justice may conflict with Asian cultural values, and Dan Van Ness, who conducted the training, suggested that they consider the experience of Hong Kong and Thailand in address that concern.
