Lenten Reflections

Nothing for Lent

This Lent we invite you to think about nothing. Not in a mystical sense or in a hopeless way, but God’s way.

Lent is a time of self-renunciation. We recognise our utter dependence upon God. As Jesus had nothing physically when he fasted for 40 days, we learn to lessen our attachment to physical needs in hopes of growing stronger spiritually.

To help focus on this quest, this book invites you to explore and be encouraged by what the Bible says about “nothing.” We have selected 46 different Scripture passages - each including the word nothing - for all 40 days of Lent plus Sundays, with one or two daily reflections.

The writers of this book come from a wide array of backgrounds - 43 authors representing 33 countries or territories. They share a common commitment to help those affected by crime and also share a bond as fellow Sojourners, having participated in a spiritual formation programme in ILF, known as the "Odyssey".

May you find joy and hope during Lent and beyond, as you reflect on God’s messages to us about nothing!
