A Better Beginning for Babies
PF Senegal is making it easier for women who must give birth under difficult conditions in old, overcrowded prisons.
In the western African country of Senegal, all of the prisons date back to the colonial era, so overcrowding and inadequate conditions are a significant problem. Such an environment is even more trying for mothers who must give birth in prison, and there have been many births in the past few months. In response, PF Senegal mobilized the community and secured donations from an organisation in Germany to bring aid to these mothers-to-be, distributing many bags of clothing and gifts for the women and babies. PF Senegal has also received financial support from the Baptist Church to construct a building to house 100 women. “Much of the building is already finished,” says Charles Richard Kosséré, PF Senegal Executive Director, who asks for prayers for the facility’s completion.
