In Zimbabwe, a country with a failing economy where poverty and unemployment are widespread, it is the prisoners who suffer most. They are captive to disease and hunger and powerless to help themselves. PF Zimbabwe volunteers regularly bring food to the prisoners and are preparing for an upcoming medical outreach project with volunteer doctors from Humedica. In May, PFI President Ron Nikkel visited PF Zimbabwe and provided ministry leaders with the funds necessary to purchase blankets and mattresses for the suffering inmates in the prison infirmary.

PF Zimbabwe Helping Ex-offenders, Families and Communities Find Healing: Ex-offenders encounter many challenges to living a crime free life once they leave prison. Chief among these are rejection by their families and communities of origin and the fear of revenge on the part of victims or victims' families. As a response to this reality, PF Zimbabwe created the Victim Offender Reconciliation Programme to assist this reintegration process.

PF Zimbabwe Addresses Prison Overcrowding: Recently, Peter Mandianike, PF Zimbabwe’s Executive Director, addressed the Committee on Justice and Legal Affairs regarding the substandard condition of Zimbabwe’s prisons. His intervention followed a senior prison official’s report that widespread malnutrition and disease is spreading in Zimbabwe prisons due to rampant overcrowding and the lack of funding for food and medicines.
