Prison Fellowship Costa Rica, chartered in 1995, currently assists over 400 prisoners around the country. Faith-based prison units, reconciliation programmes for offenders and victims, youth prgrammes along with evangelization are all made possible by a volunteer force of close to 75 caring individuals who are out to make a difference

Promoting Restorative Justice in Costa Rica

For the year of 2009 PF Costa Rica entered a partnership with the Comisión Nacional para el Mejoramiento de la Administración de Justicia (National Commission for the Improvement for the Administration of Justice) to promote restorative justice at various levels of Costa Rican society. As a part of this effort, the national ministry organized a series of public events related to the topic in Mid-June.

Proyecto Semillitas de Amor -"Seeds of Love Project"

Proyecto Semillitas de Amor- “Seeds of Love project” is a project to prevent bad or delinquent behavior among children of prisoners who have suffered the impact of having one or both of their parents in prison. The children receive psychological therapies, spiritual guidance, educational support and they also participate in different activities such as camping, angel tree program and different celebrations. At the present, 72 children are the beneficiaries of this project. PF Costa Rica is working in expanding this project to support more children in social risk.

A Sycamore Tree Project® Story From Costa Rica

The Sycamore Tree Project® is an in prison restorative justice programme bringing together groups of unrelated victims and offenders to explore issues related to crime. Over a course of 5-8 meetings, the groups discuss crime, its impact, and ways to make things right. Miguel Tello, restorative justice programme manager for the Centre, facilitated the first Sycamore Tree Project® in Costa Rica. In this article, he shares his reflections on the experience.
