Introduction and Recent News
In June 2010 Uruguay became the 117th chartered ministry in the PFI global network. PF Uruguay's prison ministry is known as "Vida Nueva Uruguay" (New Life Uruguaya). In addition to working toward the rehabilitation of prisoners and ex-prisoners, the ministry supports children and teenagers who are socially vulnerable by operating a youth crime prevention program. The ministry also offers vocational training workshops where prisoners learn mechanics, carpentry, hairdressing, and computer skills.
