Prison Fellowship Bulgaria was founded in 1994 to share the gospel and provide support for inmates and their families as a movement of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church in close cooperation with the prison chaplains and the national prison administration. Over the years the organization has grown to provide programmes and services to all 13 prisons in the country.

Alternatives for juveniles in Bulgaria

Recently I provided restorative conferencing training for Prison Fellowship Bulgaria (PF Bulgaria) and several of its partner agencies. The twenty participants represented different public and non-governmental organisations including the Department for Child Protection, the Anti-bullying Commission of Vratsa, the Cultural Centre of Vratsa, the Probation Department, Caritas- Ruse and PF Bulgaria.

PF Bulgaria “Adaptation Environment” Programme

Through its “Adaptation Environment” programme, PF Bulgaria provides prisoners with religious education, conflict resolution training, life skills courses, and vocational training. Currently, the programme operates in Vratsa Prison serving repeat offenders for six months prior to their release.

Prisoners in many countries often suffer from vision problems simply because they cannot obtain treatment. PF England and Wales recently partnered with Vision Aid Overseas to correct the failing vision of prisoners in Bulgaria.
