Addressing Many Needs
When prisoners in Nepal were so plagued by bedbugs and mosquitoes that they couldn't sleep at night, Prison Fellowship stepped in to help.
More than 1,000 inmates in the Dillibazar Prison could not sleep at night because they were plagued by bedbugs and mosquitoes. They sought help from the prison administration, but there was no money in the budget to address the problem. When Prison Fellowship Nepal heard of the situation, they purchased insecticide and presented it to the prison. All the cells were soon fumigated with the insecticide clearing up the massive infestation. “Prison Fellowship people are our true friend in the time of suffering,” one of the inmates told Dinesh Neupane, Executive Director of PF Nepal.
In the Naphtha Prison, inmates had the chance to enjoy active participation in several sports thanks to a partnership between PF Nepal and Christian Sport Fellowship. Prisoners competed in football, volleyball, board games, table tennis and basketball for gifts and certificates presented at the end of the month in a final ceremony where PF provided packaged lunches for all 400 prisoners. In addition to exercise and recreation, the programme provided non-Christian inmates exposure to Christian volunteers and other Christian inmates.
